  • My new cameras

    0

I found these two cameras this morning in Kailua. I know I paid a little more than they were really worth. But they were clean, seemed operational and I could touch them before buying.

The first 35mm camera I used when I was a teenager was my dad’s Argus C3, a black brick. I’ve always wanted to get one in good condition and relive my youth. I found it in this particular model, the Match-Matic, so called because of the selenium exposure meter on top. Paid $48 for it.

If it looks familiar, it should. Argus produced about 350,000 of them between 1958 and 1966. Another reason might be because it was a major prop in the second Harry Potter movie.

The other camera I bought is the Kodak Junior Six-20 Series II. Like the Argus, Kodak made many, many of these between 1937 and 1940. A very simple camera, easy to use. New, it sold for only $14. I paid $36 for this today.

Both cameras will need some cleaning and refurbishing. But overall, they are in fine condition. I’ll take them to Dwight at Phototech soon.

Ryuji has opened his own restaurant. Here is some of our dinner.

Zen Shu is on Kapahulu Avenue, where Harpo’s used to be.

We had dinner in Waipahu on Sunday, June 29. The best lumpia in Hawaii by Linda Rosario and take-out from Little Village Noodle House. Even the dogs had some chicken wings!

We had dinner at Hoku’s last night. The wok fried whole fish is awesome, which we’ve ordered the previous two times we had dinner at Hoku’s. This time it was onaga. I forgot to take a photo of the seafood tower appetizer. And the chocolate dessert was more than we could handle.
