I didn’t know this place existed. From Lumahai Street you’d never know there was a path to this place. But it’s just a short walk from the road down a steep and narrow pathway. Carefully make your way down as it can be dangerous even when dry.
This is a view of Diamond Head from behind. Not a common side. To the right are luxurious homes. From this location whales can be seen passing.
The MacGeek calls me a few days ago and wants some advice since he’s taking on a new job. Our last meetup was in May at Aki-no-No. This time we got together at Hanamaru Japanese Restaurant, just across the street.
Here’s our after dinner shot; Kayoko, Greg and Bryan. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside and has old movie posters on the walls. Along one wall there is a sushi bar. I took a menu to show to Melanie … maybe we’ll pay a visit sometime.
My advice to Bryan? Cash out his retirement plan and treat the four of us to a trip to Japan.
We started our eve by going to Marcus and Ann’s home in Palolo where we feasted on a lavish spread of local favorites. Carli entertained all of us on ukulele. Nui, the youngest wanted to play with Cupie who needed most of the evening to stop being afraid. Hone and Pono chilled. Alan Yamamoto also had dinner with us but he left early on.
On New Year’s day we went to Waipahu and dined on osechi ryori from Nijiya Market.
In the afternoon we went to Karen’s home in Nuuanu and stayed for most of the evening eating more and drinking several bottles of wine. Chuck and Becky share their aloha and wine with us, too.
