  • Duck in Koi Pond

    0

Krauss Hall is an older wooden building on the Manoa Campus of the University of Hawaii. It consists of several structures with covered walkways connecting the offices and rooms. Between sections there are spaces where one can relax and escape. The koi pond is along the makai (ocean) side of the complex, along Dole Street.

Between classes and during the lunch hour students and staff take time off to find peace by the pond. This image was taken in the early afternoon, February 27, 2009.

After the annual Al and Sam Hoffman Valentine’s party Mel and I stopped at ZenShu to visit Ryuji, our favorite sushi master. Since we already ate at the party Mel and I ordered Omakase Mini for dessert. Ryuji served us lots of uni.

Tonight we had an excellent seven course Chinese dinner at the Royal Garden Restaurant at the Ala Moana Hotel. When Frankie hosts a party the dinner is always excellent. At the start of our dinner here is Marissa, Trisha, Frankie, Markus and Melanie.

  • A photowalk at Foster Botanical Garden

Mark McMahon wanted to take a break and do a photowalk on February 1. We went to Foster Botanical Garden for a few hours in the morning. Here’s a picture Mark took of us. There’s a mirrored ball at the rest area and he shot it to get the “fisheye” effect.

In the middle of Honolulu, just mauka (mountain side) of downtown you’ll find 13.5 acres of peace and nature. The site was established more than 150 years ago when Queen Kalama gifted a plot of land to William Hillebrand, a physician and botanist. After the doctor returned to Germany, 20 years later, the property was sold to Captain Thomas Foster and his wife Mary for the whom the garden is now named.

Here are a few images taken at the garden on February 1, 2009.
