I found these two cameras this morning in Kailua. I know I paid a little more than they were really worth. But they were clean, seemed operational and I could touch them before buying.

The first 35mm camera I used when I was a teenager was my dad’s Argus C3, a black brick. I’ve always wanted to get one in good condition and relive my youth. I found it in this particular model, the Match-Matic, so called because of the selenium exposure meter on top. Paid $48 for it.

If it looks familiar, it should. Argus produced about 350,000 of them between 1958 and 1966. Another reason might be because it was a major prop in the second Harry Potter movie.

The other camera I bought is the Kodak Junior Six-20 Series II. Like the Argus, Kodak made many, many of these between 1937 and 1940. A very simple camera, easy to use. New, it sold for only $14. I paid $36 for this today.

Both cameras will need some cleaning and refurbishing. But overall, they are in fine condition. I’ll take them to Dwight at Phototech soon.
